The Behavior Frequency Scale
The Behavior Frequency Scale (BFS) is an accurate instrument to identify children and youths who have the problems associated with prenatal exposure to stimulant drugs like crack, cocaine, and methamphetamines.
The BFS is a questionnaire that asks teachers or caregivers to answer a series of questions about the behaviors of the child or youth, stating whether the behavior has never occurred, has occurred at least once, has occurred at least half the time, or almost always occurs.
It is not appropriate for a visitor to the classroom or home to use the BFS, because the BFS requires knowledge of behavior that a daily caregiver or parent, day care provider, teacher, classroom aide, or foster parent would know.
The BFS has 47 questions, and the administrator need only mark along the answer line at the appropriate place which shows the frequency of the behavior. There is also a space to provide further information on the child, or to more fully describe the behaviors.
The BFS is easily scored by the administrator (teacher, caregiver), or can be sent to Program Development and Evaluation for professional scoring and recommendations for appropriate interventions.
